Yes you can. Don’t know what state you live in but I’m sure it is the same in most state. Here is what the Nevada CDL handbook states “Applicants between 18 to 20 years of age may be granted a CDL to operate a CMV in intrastate commerce. However this age group will not be granted the privilege to transport passengers for hire or to transport hazardous materials requiring placards.”
I have a friend of mine that got his at 18 and went to work for a logging company in Washington state. If you get your CDL at 18 you can not cross the state line for the state you live. Also if you are in a state where there is long vehicle combinations or over-length vehicles (70 feet or longer) you will not be granted that.
I hope this will help you..
Yes. Most states allow commercial operators to drive “Intrastate” at age 18, but you can’t drive across state lines until you’re 21.
Check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to get the full story.
nah its 18 do get a truck drivers licence… im pretty sure
Yes, Class A licences are legal then but the company might put you in local runs at first. Then expand with given time.
Spidy nailed it…. (like usual.. :-} )
You can get your CDL at age 18, but you will not be able to run interstate until you are 21. You will be restricted to the state you are licensed in.
If you know someone in the transportation industry that has some local work and hire you, then by all means, get your CDL, but if you want to get it, just to have it but won’t be able to use it until you are 21, I would wait. Here’s why….
If you get your license now and are not able to drive a truck for three years, if you do find a company that will hire you at age 21, they are going to insist on a refresher course because you haven’t driven in the last three years. Kind of a “catch 22″ thing. Darned if you do and darned if you don’t.
One more thing to consider… Most interstate carriers have a 23 year old restriction on hiring… not because of experience, but their insurance companies have done the statistical studies that say that drivers are not safe until age 23… you know better and I know better, but hey… we don’t make the rules.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do… This industry has been very good to me and paid a lot of bills….
it will depend on what state you live in, but there is ways around that.
You can go to the school but you won’t be able to get a job driving over the road until age 21.
