To get a class A CDL you need to be at least 18 years old if you will be driving inside the state that you are licensed in. If you want to be an interstate driver or haul hazardous materials you need to be at least 21.
“To Qualify/Apply:
In order to qualify and apply, you must:
* Meet the qualifications for or have a Regular Driver License (Non-Commercial Class C). This means you must pass the Non-Commercial Class C; knowledge and drive tests before applying for a CDL;
* Be at least 18 years of age (21 years of age to operate a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce)”
If you never drove a truck before and need training, and you will need training because its not like driving a car, it will cost you a few thousand dollars. Some companies offer paid training but you have to work for them for a period of time (usually about a year) or you will have to pay them for the training. Getting a CDL is quiet an investment, so unless you have a lot of free time and money to spend on it, I would not recommend getting it just for the hell of it.
I think in most states the age is 21. If you’re going to work as a truck driver, you have to be specially trained in a truck driving school and get your CDL (commercial driver’s license), and those are not cheap. So if you’re thinking of doing it just for fun, rethink that idea. If you’re going to spend the money it takes for CDL driving school, maybe you’d better take it a little more seriously. Good luck!
My father is a truck driver. He got his when he was 18. But some states require you to be 21.
If you look online for a CDL school in your area. They can help you, and answer your questions concerning almost anything with truck driving.
i think it,s 18 or 21.
